This past week has been pretty rough. I finished clinicals for the week on Tuesday and just knew I was getting sick. Fast forward to a nasty head cold that is finally getting better today. I was stuffy and nauseous and wanted #allthetoast. When I didn’t have an appetite at all, I made one of my trusty green smoothies. I have finally learned the secret to the perfect green smoothie, and can’t wait to share it with you!
First, you have to have a good blender. I use my NutriBullet, because it blends perfectly and cleanup is so easy.
Next, have all of your ingredients on hand. This includes a variety of frozen fruits, some fresh spinach, your favorite protein powder (I love Tera’s organic grass fed whey protein), and some almond milk. I prefer almond milk because it gives my smoothies a nutty flavor. Make sure you buy the unsweetened kind!
Green Smoothie Recipe
- 1.5 cups spinach
- 1 cup frozen fruit (If you want your smoothie to keep its green color then stick to banana, peaches, mango. Otherwise have fun with it!)
- 1-2 scoops protein powder (I usually use vanilla flavored)
- 8 0z. almond milk (you can also use lite coconut milk from the can or do half milk have coconut water)
Just blend and sip! Sometimes I double the recipe and make it ahead of time. Just pop it in the fridge and you have fresh smoothies for two days. It is the perfect mid morning snack when I get hungry during clinicals but don’t have time to sit down and eat!
Other things you can do is add peanut butter for added protein or dates for sweetness. Sometimes I throw in some fresh mint, or I omit the fruit and add cacao powder and peanut butter. It tastes just like a chocolate shake, and it is the BEST post-hot yoga snack!
What do you put in your smoothie?
